With researchers shifting its interest away from quantitative, monomethod research design, there is an increasing appeal on mixed methods design and qualitative research designs such as phenomenology: conditions of its usage, the process of doing it, and the rules that ensures its legitimacy from the conceptualization of the research to the publication of the journal article.

Thus, the Asian Society of Teachers for Research, Inc. with SEC Registration No. CN201619200 in cooperation with the Philippine School Doha invite you to the Training on Mixed Methods Design and Phenomenology: From Thesis to Publication on May 17-19, 2017 at Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.

Objectives:

  • Provide an overview of the foundations and applications of mixed methods research (MMR) through the introduction of the major types of MMR and discussion of rationales and steps for conducting a mixed methods study;
  • Understand the mixed methods approach, learn how to use the mixed method tools for research, and apply through work on their own research projects the best practices for writing up a mixed methods study;
  • Introduce Phenomenology as powerful research design in capturing the lived experiences of individuals, familiarize the jargon of Phenomenology, get the feel on how to conduct research anchored on phenomenology and redirect understanding on the dynamics of qualitative research focusing on phenomenology;
  • Encourage researchers to paradigm shift from Germanic to IMRAD form on writing a thesis for international publication; and produce at least one prototype research sample on phenomenology.

Dr. Imee C. Acosta, Virginia Commonwealth University, Qatar

A prolific author, researcher and speaker, among others, Dr. Acosta’s numerous endeavors reflects her penchant to research specifically the qualitative kind. Currently, an Adjunct Instructor of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Arts, her paper on the effects of workplace abuses of migrant workers was published by WIEGO and awarded the Best Manuscript in the International Conference in Business and Social Sciences 2014 in Tokyo, Japan.


Dr. Alexander S. Acosta, Philippine School Doha, Qatar

With such excellent academic background and equally impressive skills to boot, Dr. Alexander S. Acosta has been the Principal for the Philippine School Doha, State of Qatar for 14 years. An in-demand speaker, His speakership engagements are centered on topics about leadership and education. His research interests are in the field of corporate and educational leadership as well as pedagogical approaches in education. Publications he authored and co-authored are published in Elsevier, Sage Publications and WIEGO, among others.

Confirmation and Payment Details:

  • Registration Fee of the Training-Workshop is at 6000 pesos which is inclusive of two-day lunches, am and pm snacks, training materials, and certificates, among others. The participants are reminded that the Training-Workshop is in LIVE-OUT arrangement and thus, the hotel accommodation during the Training-Workshop will be shouldered by the participating individual.
