The training objectives are to:
- Understand the AI Landscape in Academic Research — align advisors and panelists on how students are utilizing generative AI and the ethical boundaries of these tools in research;
- Adapt Advising Methodologies for AI-Assisted Students — equip advisors with strategies to guide students effectively, ensuring intellectual ownership and critical thinking are maintained;
- Standardize Paneling and Evaluation Frameworks — establish clear, updated rubrics and defense protocols to fairly evaluate theses developed in an AI-rich environment;
- Implement Policy, Detection, and Disclosure Protocols — provide practical guidelines on institutional policies, AI disclosure, and the limitations of AI detection software.

9:00am – 12:00nn: Session I: Current and Emerging AI Tools in Research (e.g., LLMs for literature reviews, data analysis, and drafting); Session II: Academic Integrity vs. AI Integration — defining permissible use versus AI-generated plagiarism

1:01pm – 4:30pm: Session III: Scaffolding the Thesis Process — shifting focus from the final written product to formative milestones and process-based tracking; Session IV: Cultivating AI Literacy and Critical Evaluation — teaching students how to fact-check AI outputs, identify hallucinations, and vet sources

9:01am – 12:00nn: Session V: Designing AI-Resilient Rubrics — updating evaluation criteria to emphasize synthesis, original contribution, and critical defense over basic writing mechanics; Session VI: Formulating Defense Questions — crafting targeted questions to verify the student's deep, conceptual understanding of their own work

1:01pm – 4:30pm: Session VII: AI Citation and Disclosure Standards — guidelines for how students must document and cite their use of AI tools in their methodology or acknowledgments; Session VIII: Navigating AI Detectors — understanding the accuracy, false-positive rates, and limitations of AI detection tools during the review process

4:41pm – 5:00pm: Closing Ceremonies & Awarding of Certificates
