The training objectives are to:

1. Understand the AI Landscape in Academic Research — align advisors and panelists on how students are utilizing generative AI and the ethical boundaries of these tools in research;
2. Adapt Advising Methodologies for AI-Assisted Students — equip advisors with strategies to guide students effectively, ensuring intellectual ownership and critical thinking are maintained;
3. Standardize Paneling and Evaluation Frameworks — establish clear, updated rubrics and defense protocols to fairly evaluate theses developed in an AI-rich environment;
4. Implement Policy, Detection, and Disclosure Protocols — provide practical guidelines on institutional policies, AI disclosure, and the limitations of AI detection software.
